From service technician to sales manager
Hello, I’m Wilhelm Potthoff, and I’ve been part of the KUPER team since my apprenticeship in 1987. After 30 years as a service technician, during which I traveled extensively and overcame many challenges, I felt the desire for a career change.
During this period of transition, I had a conversation with our new CEO, Gerd Meurer. To my delight, he immediately supported my idea. He recognized that my technical expertise and long-standing customer relationships provided an ideal foundation for a successful career in sales.
Another key step in my career was the deliberate development of my language skills. I am particularly proud to now manage the French market and conduct negotiations in French.
The transition from service to sales was a significant step for me – and looking back, it was the best decision of my professional life. This new role has given me the opportunity to apply my skills in a completely new way for KUPER.
My advice to anyone facing a similar decision or feeling the desire for change: Have the courage to take new paths, communicate your wishes, and pursue your goals consistently. It’s worth it – especially with an employer like KUPER, who actively supports personal growth and development.
